Charles Edward Anderson "Chuck" Berry (October 18, 1926 – March 18, 2017) was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter and one of the pioneers of rock and roll music.

Born into a middle-class African-American family in St. Louis, Missouri, Berry had an interest in music from an early age and gave his first public performance at Sumner High School. By early 1953, influenced by the guitar riffs and showmanship techniques of the blues musician T-Bone Walker, Berry began performing with the Johnnie Johnson Trio. The band played mostly blues and ballads, but the most popular music among whites in the area was country.

Chuck Berry's life like took "roller coaster" ride but only one thing kept his passion and that is music. His music experience has these parts. 1955-1962: He signed a contract with Chess Records, with whom he recorded songs from "Maybellene" to "Come On". 1963–1969: He recorded "Nadine" and move to Mercury Records, during which he published 8 singles. Three of these songs were commercial successful, making the Top 20 on Billboard 100 chart. 1970–1979: he went back to Chess Records: from "My Ding-a-Ling" to a concert at the White House; 1980-2017: He was still performing and featured in a video documentary "Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll".

随着歌曲如“Maybellene”(1955), "Roll Over Beethoven" (1956), "Rock and Roll Music" (1957) and "Johnny B. Goode" (1958)。

A pioneer of rock and roll, Berry was a significant influence on the development of both the music and the attitude associated with the rock music lifestyle. With songs such as "Maybellene" (1955), "Roll Over Beethoven" (1956), "Rock and Roll Music" (1957) and "Johnny B. Goode" (1958). He perfected the rhythm of the blues and the unique song elements that would influence countless musicians, as well as being a pioneer in the emerging teenage youth culture from dance styles to imagery which would characterize rock music forever.

(Bruce Springsteen&Chuck Berry

When asked what caused the explosion of the popularity of rock 'n roll that took place in the 1950s with him and a handful of others, Berry said,"Well, actually they begin to listen to it, you see, because certain stations played certain music. The music that we, the blacks, played, the cultures were so far apart, we would have to have a play station in order to play it. The cultures begin to come together, and you begin to see one another's vein of life, then the music came together."

"If Chuck Berry had not been Chuck Berry, music would be different,"singer-guitarist Gary Clark Jr. who plays on rock legend's upcoming LP says
